1. A method comprising:
determining, by a publication device, a level of engagement of a first user with one or more publications of a publication device;
determining, by the publication device, that the level of engagement of the first user with the one or more publications satisfies a preference setting established by a second user for allowing real-time contact, the preference setting indicating a level of engagement requirement that the first user satisfied to be allowed real-time contact with the second user;
in response to the level of engagement satisfying the preference setting, selectively causing, by a hardware processor of the publication device, presentation of a user interface on a device of the first user that includes one or more icons allowing real-time contact with the second user;
receiving, by the publication device via the user interface, an indication of a selection by the first user of at least one of the one or more icons; and
in response to receiving the indication of the selection, selectively causing a real-time contact request to be transmitted to a device of the second user.
