1. A method of surgical sealing comprising administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of a polymer consisting of:
at least one antiseptic monomeric unit comprising a methacrylic ester derivative of salicylic acid selected from 2-hydroxy-5-N-methacrylamidobenzoic acid (5-HMA), 2-hydroxy-4-N-methacrylamidobenzoic acid (4-HMA), and a combination thereof;
a water-soluble monomeric unit in the form of an oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (OEGMA) moiety;
a mechanical strength-conferring monomeric unit in the form of polylactide-co-2-hydroxy-ethylmethyl acrylate (PLA/HEMA);
a protein/polysaccharide-reactive monomeric unit in the form of an N-acryloxysuccinimide (NAS) moiety; and
a thermosetting monomeric unit in the form of an N-isopropyl acrylamide (NIPAAm) moiety.
