5. An optical receiver, comprising:
an optical shutter comprising a birefringent material;
an optical system arranged adjacent to the optical shutter, wherein:
the optical system is configured to (i) receive optical signals having a first set of angles from objects in an environment and (ii) compress the first set of angles into a second set of angles below a threshold angle associated with the birefringent material; and
the optical shutter is configured to receive the optical signals with the second set of angles, wherein the threshold angle is set to an angle at or below a maximum angle that can propagate through the birefringent material without producing an interference pattern; and
at least one image sensor configured to generate an image of the environment based on the optical signals that pass through the optical shutter.
