1. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium, having stored thereon program instructions that, upon execution by a processor, cause performance of operations comprising:
identifying candidate audio frames to drop during speed-enhanced playback of media, each candidate audio frame identified based on a comparison of a number of skip bytes included in the candidate audio frame to a threshold; and
performing the speed-enhanced playback of the media by dropping one or more of the identified candidate audio frames and one or more corresponding video frames.
