1. A computer-implemented method for alerting a second vehicle of an approaching first vehicle, the method implemented by an alert management computing device associated with the approaching first vehicle that includes a processor and a memory device coupled to the processor, the method comprising:
determining a present location of the approaching first vehicle and at least one of a present speed, a present trajectory, and a present acceleration of the approaching first vehicle;
receiving a second vehicle location data from a computing device associated with the second vehicle,
wherein the second vehicle location data includes a present second vehicle location and at least one of a present speed, a present trajectory, and a present acceleration of the second vehicle;
calculating an alert zone for the approaching first vehicle as a function of the present location of the approaching first vehicle and at least one of the present speed, the present trajectory, and the present acceleration of the approaching first vehicle,
wherein an area of the alert zone is determined as a function of at least one of the approaching first vehicle speed and the approaching first vehicle acceleration;
increasing the area of the alert zone in response to an increase in at least one of the approaching first vehicle speed and the approaching first vehicle acceleration;
decreasing the area of the alert zone in response to a decrease in at least one of the approaching first vehicle speed and the approaching first vehicle acceleration;
calculating a vehicle zone for the second vehicle as a function of the present location of the second vehicle and at least one of a present speed, a present trajectory, and a present acceleration of the second vehicle;
determining whether the second vehicle is within the alert zone by comparing the vehicle zone to the alert zone to determine whether the vehicle zone partially overlaps the alert zone; and
transmitting a warning message to the second vehicle via the second vehicle computing device in response to a determination that the vehicle zone partially overlaps the alert zone.
