1. An indicia reader, comprising:
a CMOS image sensor;
a processor configured to decode indicia information in an instance in which at least one object bearing the indicia information is detected within a field of view of the CMOS image sensor;
an illumination system comprising one or more light emitting diodes;
an audio indicator system comprising a sound source, wherein the sound source is configured to provide audible indications; and
a housing for at least partially enclosing the CMOS image sensor, the processor, the illumination system, and the audio indicator system, the housing comprising:
two adjacent mounting surfaces that meet to form a common edge, wherein the two adjacent mounting surfaces define a void along the common edge;
a sound conducting channel in acoustic communication with the sound source, wherein the sound conducting channel comprises a sound port opening that is configured to transmit audible indications emitted by the sound source in an instance in which the indicia information is successfully decoded, and wherein the sound port opening is positioned in the void; and wherein the indicia reader operates in presentation mode or handheld mode.
