1. A hard disk drive (HDD), comprising:
a generator configured to convert mechanical energy of moving components of the HDD to electrical energy; and
a power logic module coupled to the generator and configured to control power distribution for the HDD by:
maintaining a load control signal at a first logical level and routing electrical energy from a power distribution board (PDB) of a data storage system to additional components of the HDD, and
responsive to detection of an HDD shut down operation, setting the load control signal to a second logical level and routing the electrical energy from the generator to the PDB.
