1. A method comprising:
covering at least one fragment of a first material that contains a thermochromic material (TCM) and/or a phase-change material (PCM) with an organic material and/or a polymeric material to form said at least one fragment encapsulated in a first shell of said organic material and/or polymeric material;
mixing said at least one fragment encapsulated in said first shell with a surfactant in a solvent to form an emulsion precursor;
combining an emulsion precursor with a second material that includes
(1A) a first metal oxide with a dopant, and/or
(1B) a metal oxide precursor; and
to form an emulsion;
and
processing said emulsion to generate at least one core-shell particle including a core containing the first material, the first shell encapsulating the core, and a second shell comprising the second material, wherein the second shell surrounds the first shell; and
wherein the first shell encapsulating the core and disposed between the core and the second shell, the first shell comprising polyacrylate and/or a polymethacrylate and/or a polymetacrylic acid.
