1. An article comprising:
a substrate; and
a coating disposed on the substrate; where the coating comprises:
a binder; and
a plurality of nanosheets, where the plurality of nanosheets are arranged in layers and are oriented with their largest surfaces being substantially parallel to a surface of the substrate upon which they are disposed; where the plurality of nanosheets are exfoliated by the binder and where the nanosheets are uniformly dispersed in the binder; where a periodicity between the plurality of nanosheets parallel to the substrate is smaller than a periodicity between nanosheets in a direction perpendicular to the substrate.
