A modular ceramic filter element comprising a first ceramic elongate hollow body, a second ceramic elongate hollow body and a connection member, in the form of a ring, wherein the connection member is metallic and is arranged to extend axially into a lower wall of the first ceramic elongate hollow body and into an upper wall of the second ceramic elongate hollow body to provide a gas-tight seal between the first ceramic elongate hollow body and the second ceramic elongate hollow body.
