1. A gel composition comprising cross-linked hyaluronic acid, wherein the hyaluronic acid is cross-linked by one or more cross-linking groups that comprises structural formula I:
—C(═O)—CR(R1)—CH2—CR(R2)—C(═O)—  (I)
and one or more cross-linking groups that comprises structural formula II:
—CH2—S—S—CH2—  (II)
wherein each of R, R1 and R2 is independently selected from the group consisting of H, a C1-C14 alkyl group, a C4-C14 aryl group, a halogen, or a bond linking the cross-linking group to the crosslinked hyaluronic acid network.
