1. A process of forming textured surfaces on an interbody fusion device that comprises a cage having a top surface and an opposite bottom surface, said textured surfaces being prepared by a process comprising the steps of:
initially laser ablating said top surface and said bottom surface of said cage with a nano- second pulsed laser to form a three-dimensional geometric pattern on each of said top surface and said bottom surface that comprises projections and recesses; and
then, laser ablating said initially ablated top surface and said bottom surface of said cage with an ultrafast pulsed laser to form nano-scale structures on said top surface and bottom surface, said nano-scale structures having a depth less than 1 μm.
