1. A communication device for a flexible mask wearer comprising:
a first housing comprising:
a microphone for receiving speech from the mask wearer; and
a first magnetic attachment component;
a second housing comprising:
a speaker configured to broadcast the speech from the mask wearer;
a second magnetic attachment component complementary to the first magnetic attachment component; and
a sensor configured to detect a condition of the environment, the sensor including one or more membranes or filters to sample or analyze ambient air or air expelled by the mask wearer,
wherein the first and second housings are arranged to magnetically attach, by their respective first and second magnetic attachment components, with the flexible mask interposed therebetween to position the microphone proximate to a mouth of the mask wearer within the interior airspace of the mask, and wherein the first housing is configured to transmit a voice signal of the speech to the second housing positioned on an outside of the mask by a wireless connection, and
wherein the one or more membranes or filters include a non-removable membrane, a removable membrane, or a removable filter.
