1. A system, comprising:
one or more processors; and
memory coupled to the one or more processors, the memory including one or more modules that are executable by the one or more processors to:
intercept, at a controller of a telecommunication network, a communication request to initiate a communication with a recipient device that originated from an originating device, the controller intercepting the communication request at an application function in an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) core of the telecommunication network;
generate, at the controller of the telecommunication network, a proof-of-identity (PoI) message for delivery to the originating device that originated the communication request;
receive, at the controller of the telecommunication network, a reply message that is responsive to the PoI message from the originating device;
analyze, at the controller of the telecommunication network, the reply message to determine whether the communication is a legitimate communication; and
establish, via the telecommunication network, the communication between the originating device and the recipient device by the controller of the telecommunication network redirecting the communication request that was intercepted to the application function of the IMS core in response to determining the communication is the legitimate communication.
