1. A system comprising:
an order processor operable to receive an order identifying a perishable item;
a selection component comprising:
a sensor operable to sense a reflection from the perishable item and produce a sensor output based at least on the reflection; and
a picking mechanism operable to divert items to a disposition outlet;
a control processor operable to:
receive the order from the order processor;
receive the sensor output from the selection component;
compare the sensor output with a lower threshold and a higher threshold within a profile;
based at least on whether the sensor output is within the lower threshold and the higher threshold within the profile, determine a disposition for the perishable item; and
based on the determined disposition, control the picking mechanism to divert the perishable item to a disposal output, wherein the determined disposition is to withhold selection of the perishable item for fulfillment of the order due to the sensor output being outside the lower threshold and the higher threshold within the profile.
