1. A method for operation of an electric drive system, comprising:
while the electric drive system is operated under a first condition, coordinating operation of a first continuously variable electric drive unit and a second continuously variable electric drive unit based on a first power request;
wherein the first continuously variable electric drive unit is included in a first electric drive axle that includes a first differential which is rotationally coupled to a first set of axle shafts;
wherein the second continuously variable electric drive unit is included in a second electric drive axle that includes a second differential which is rotationally coupled to a second set of axle shafts;
wherein the first continuously variable electric drive unit includes a first planetary gear reduction that delivers power from a first pair of motors to the first set of axle shafts via the first differential;
wherein the second continuously variable electric drive unit includes a second planetary gear reduction that delivers power from a second pair of motors to the second set of axle shafts via the second differential; and
wherein the first and second continuously variable electric drive units have asymmetric gear ratios in that the first planetary gear reduction connected to both motors in the first pair of motors has a different gear ratio than the second planetary gear reduction connected to both motors in the second pair of motors.
