1. A robotic surgery system comprising:
an input device configured to generate an input signal in response to manipulation by an operator; and
a processor configured to:
receive the input signal from the input device;
process the input signal to determine a desired spatial positioning of an instrument within an instrument workspace;
provide an indication in response to a determination that the desired spatial positioning would result in a movement associated with a potential service life reduction of the instrument; and
in response to a determination that the desired spatial positioning would not result in the movement associated with the potential service life reduction of the instrument, cause the instrument to be positioned at the desired spatial positioning in the instrument workspace.
