1. A method to increase drought tolerance for grass comprising:
estimating, by a server, a root depth of the grass watered by an irrigation system based on one or more of historical watering data of the grass, grass type characteristics of the grass, or soil characteristics of soil in which the grass is growing;
determining, by the server, an initial target water depletion threshold of the grass based on the root depth;
generating, by the server, an irrigation schedule based on the initial target water depletion threshold and weather information;
transmitting, by the server, the irrigation schedule to an irrigation controller to selectively activate the irrigation system based on the irrigation schedule;
generating, by the server, an updated target water depletion threshold;
wherein:
the updated target water depletion threshold is different than the initial target water depletion threshold;
the updated target water depletion threshold is proportional to a change in the root depth of the grass; and
generating, by the server, an updated irrigation schedule based on the updated target water depletion threshold and the weather information.
