1. An IHS (Information Handling System) comprising:
one or more processors;
a plurality of managed hardware components, each a source of metric data; and
a remote access controller supporting remote management of the IHS, and comprising a plurality of sideband management connections, separate from the one or more processors, for management of the plurality of managed hardware components, and implementing a telemetry system, wherein the remote access controller comprises one or more microcontrollers and a memory device coupled to the one or more microcontrollers, and is configured to:
detect a first source of metric data comprising a first of the plurality of the managed hardware components of the IHS that are metric data sources;
determine, based on a device descriptor table utilized by the remote access controller in management of the plurality of managed hardware components, an installed location of the first source of metric data and a user-friendly descriptor of the first source of metric data;
configure the first source of metric data to generate a plurality of metric reports, wherein the metric reports are identified using a label that includes both the installed location of the first source of metric data and a user-friendly descriptor of the first source of metric data;
receive a first metric report from the first metric data source;
identify the label in first metric report; and
store data from the first metric report in a database using the label, that includes both the installed location and the user-friendly descriptor of the first source of metric data, as a database key for the stored data.
