1. A trash can, comprising:
a shell having an opening;
a lid for optionally covering at least a portion of the opening;
a hinge assembly coupled to the lid and the shell;
an actuator assembly configured to dispose the lid in multiple positions; and
a base configured to support at least a portion of the shell;
wherein the actuator assembly comprises
a pedal configured to pivot relative to the base;
a rod having a first end rotatably coupled to the pedal and a second end rotatably coupled to at least one of the lid and the hinge assembly; and
a cartridge configured to dampen movement of the lid;
wherein the cartridge has a first end rotatably coupled to the base and a second end rotatably coupled to the rod; and
wherein the rod and the cartridge are configured to rotate relative to the base when the pedal pivots relative to the base.
