1. An electromagnetic gripping device, comprising:
a solenoid comprising a conductive material, wherein said solenoid generates an electromagnetic field when current is applied;
a deformable membrane; and
a plunger attached to said deformable membrane and positioned within said electromagnetic field, said plunger further comprising a ferromagnetic, ferrimagnetic, or magnetic material configured to interact with said electromagnetic field;
a chamber, wherein said deformable membrane is positioned adjacent to said chamber, said chamber configured to provide structural support to the device;
at least one sensor positioned within said chamber, said sensor configured to detect the pressure inside said chamber, the volume inside said chamber, the temperature of said solenoid or the position of said plunger;
wherein said plunger will move according to changes within said electromagnetic field, and wherein moving said plunger also moves said deformable membrane, providing a gripping or attractive force when said deformable membrane is positioned adjacent to an object;
wherein said plunger further comprises a plurality of plungers, and wherein said plurality of plungers are stacked.
