1. A method of wireless communication, the method comprising:
determining an estimate of channel quality based at least in part on at least a metric of an observed transmission;
determining a terminal requirement associated with data available for transmission;
selecting a group of access sequences from a plurality of groups of access sequences based at least in part on the determined terminal requirement and comparing the determined estimate of channel quality to a range of channel quality values; and
transmitting an access sequence selected from the selected group of access sequences.
