1. A method of aligning across layers in a 360 video stream, executable by a processor, comprising:
decoding a 360 video bitstream having multiple layers;
identifying one or more subpicture regions from a base layer of the decoded 360 video bitstream, wherein the base layer comprises a planar projection of the 360 video stream partitioned into multiple subpicture regions;
decoding and displaying both the base layer and one or more enhancement layers associated with a selected subpicture region based on a determination that a current viewport is identical to the selected subpicture region; and
decoding and displaying only the base layer associated with the selected subpicture region based on a determination that the current viewport is not identical to the selected subpicture region.
