1. A method, comprising:
receiving, by a service node in a distribution network, a selection of a hosting platform, of multiple hosting platforms, for a machine-type communications (MTC) device;
mapping, by the service node, the MTC device to a virtual device proxy for the selected hosting platform;
receiving, by the service node, event data from the MTC device;
routing, by the service node, the event data to the virtual device proxy for the selected hosting platform; and
converting, by the virtual device proxy for the selected hosting platform, the event data from a first format to a second format.
