1. A method of transmitting symbols from a plurality of antennas in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
transmitting each of one or more symbols simultaneously from the plurality of antennas, wherein:
each symbol comprises a plurality of subcarriers;
the plurality of subcarriers are associated with a respective plurality of orthogonal matrices;
one of the plurality of orthogonal matrices associated with one of the plurality of subcarriers is different than at least one other of the plurality of orthogonal matrices associated with at least one other of the plurality of subcarriers;
respective portions of each matrix are associated with the respective antennas; and
the following applies to each particular antenna of the plurality of antennas:
the plurality of subcarriers transmitted from the particular antenna are multiplied by respective elements of an orthogonal matrix portion that is associated with the respective subcarriers and the particular antenna,
at least one subcarrier transmitted from the particular antenna is multiplied by an element that is non-zero, and
at least one other subcarrier transmitted from the particular antenna is multiplied by an element that is zero.
