1. A system for detecting defects in an electric conductor rail of a train, the system comprising:
an infrared (IR) sensor configured to face a direction of travel of the train and to acquire IR images;
a processing unit to:
receive the IR images from the IR sensor;
detect rails in the IR images;
detect the electric conductor rail in the IR images based on the detected rails and a known position of the electric conductor rail with respect to the rails; and
detect a defect in the electric conductor rail based on the IR images.
