1. A vehicle control system that is applied to a vehicle comprising:
an accelerator pedal that is operated by a driver;
a brake device that applies a brake force to the vehicle;
a brake pedal that is operated by the driver to actuate the brake device; and
a detector that collects data relating to an operating condition and a travelling condition of the vehicle,
wherein the vehicle is accelerated by manipulating the accelerator pedal, and is decelerated by manipulating the accelerator pedal or the brake pedal,
in a case of accelerating and decelerating the vehicle by manipulating only the accelerator pedal, a deceleration of the vehicle is increased with a reduction in an operating amount of the accelerator pedal as long as the operating amount of the accelerator pedal falls within a decelerating range from zero to a predetermined switching amount, and an acceleration of the vehicle is increased with an increase in the operating amount of the accelerator pedal as long as the operating amount of the accelerator pedal falls within an accelerating range from the switching amount to a maximum amount,
the vehicle control system further comprising:
a controller that controls the acceleration and the deceleration of the vehicle based on the data collected by the detector, and
the controller is configured to
control the deceleration of the vehicle based on a deceleration level set in accordance with a speed of the vehicle while the vehicle is operated by manipulating only the accelerator pedal, and
update the deceleration level based on an operation of the brake pedal if the brake pedal is manipulated to decelerate the vehicle, while the vehicle is operated by manipulating only the accelerator pedal and the operating amount of the accelerator pedal falls within the decelerating range,
wherein the controller is further configured to update the deceleration level such that the deceleration of the vehicle is increased with a reduction in an operating amount of the brake pedal.
