1. A catheter for mapping a chamber of a heart comprising:
a body having an elongated portion extending from a proximal end to a distal end;
a plurality of splines, each having a proximal end coupled to the distal end of the body and each having a tip that is unattached to the distal end of the body; each of the plurality of splines equally located around the distal end of the body from an adjacent spline so that the plurality of splines are arranged in a cross-shape when exiting a sheath; and
an electrode assembly comprising a plurality of electrodes arranged in a plurality of rows, each row disposed on a respective spline; a distance from an outermost electrode on each spline to the tip of each respective spline is less than a distance from an innermost electrode of each spline to the distal end of the body; and
a processing device configured to process a plurality of electrical signals detected by the electrode assembly and detect a wave front and generate an activation sequence to determine a type of an activation source based upon only electrodes disposed on the splines.
