1. In a computer system, a method comprising:
receiving standard dynamic range (“SDR”) content;
converting the SDR content into modified SDR content according to a modified Electro-Optical Transfer Function (“EOTF”) curve, including converting nonlinear input values of the SDR content into corresponding optical output values of the modified SDR content according to the modified EOTF curve, wherein the modified EOTF curve covers up to 100 nits while allowing encoding at eight-bit precision and mitigating banding in the SDR content;
providing the modified SDR content to an encoder;
generating encoded data for the modified SDR content by encoding, with the encoder, the modified SDR content using eight-bit color depth; and
outputting the encoded data for streaming to one or more client devices via a network.
