1. A method of obtaining inputs from a plurality of sensor coupling ports, comprising the steps of:
obtaining sensor data from a sensor coupling port at a first processing unit through a sensor interface circuit and a first uniquely addressed second processing unit;
processing the sensor data in the first processing unit;
analyzing the sensor data in the first processing unit;
communicating from the first processing unit to a second uniquely addressed second processing unit to receive the sensor data from the sensor coupling port;
addressing at least one of the uniquely addressed second processing units with an addressing signal;
subsequently initiating a state change on a common enable signal line coupled to each of the uniquely addressed second processing units; and
detecting both the unique addressing and the subsequently initiated state change on the common enable signal line in the second uniquely addressed second processing unit, and communicating from the first processing unit to the second uniquely addressed second processing unit to receive input from a second sensor coupling port.
