17. A computing device comprising:
one or more interfaces to connect in a mobile network for communication;
one or more processors; and
one or more memory elements for storing instructions executable on the one or more processors for operation as a session management function (SMF), which is configured to manage one or more sessions of a user plane function (UPF) which operates to forward traffic for a voice or data service between one or more user equipments (UEs) in the mobile network and an application or control function of a network, the instructions being further executable for:
invoking a failure detection monitoring procedure for monitoring the application or control function associated with address information which is stored at the SMF, which includes performing a regular or a periodic querying of information associated the application or control function from a network function (NF) repository function (NRF) via a Service-Based Interface (SBI);
in the failure detection monitoring procedure, receiving, from the NRF via the SBI, a response which indicates a failure of the application or control function of the network;
based on receiving the response which indicates the failure, initiating an address list update procedure for a reselection of a new application or control function for the voice or data service by the one or more UEs; and
prior to invoking the failure detection monitoring procedure,
receiving, from the NRF, a first profile of a first application or control function and a second profile of a second application or control function, the first application or control function and the second application or control function being in an NF Set; and
selecting the first application or control function of the NF Set as the application or control function for the voice or the data service.
