1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:
receiving a query to search events, an event of the events including a time stamp and a portion of machine data that reflects activity of a computing system in an information technology environment, wherein the events are associated with fields;
causing display, in a first portion of a user interface, of a set of events that are responsive to the query, wherein each event in the set of events includes a set of field values associated with corresponding fields;
in response to receiving a first user selection of a particular event of the set of events displayed via the first portion of the user interface, causing display, in a second portion of the user interface, of a list of field identifiers that includes particular fields associated with the user-selected particular event and a user interface instrumentality operable to perform a second user selection of one or more fields of the particular fields associated with the user-selected particular event; and
in response to receiving the second user selection of the one or more fields, via the user interface instrumentality displayed in the second portion of the user interface, associated with the user-selected particular event, causing display of the user-selected one or more fields in a field information panel in a third portion of the user interface.
