1. A surgical stapler comprising:
(a) a first stapler portion having a first stapling surface;
(b) a second stapler portion having a second stapling surface configured to cooperate with the first stapling surface to staple tissue;
(c) a clamp member operable to releasably clamp the first stapler portion against the second stapler portion;
(d) a firing assembly, wherein the firing assembly is translatable from a first position to a second position to fire staples into tissue when the first stapler portion is clamped against the second stapler portion; and
(e) a retaining assembly, wherein the retaining assembly comprises:
(i) a first moveable member configured to releasably couple the first stapler portion with the second stapler portion, and
(ii) a second moveable member configured to releasably retain the firing assembly in the first position,
wherein each of the first and second moveable members is configured to rotate relative to at least one of the first or second stapler portions.
