1. A hardware system for simulating a network physical layer for communication channels, the hardware system comprising:
a plurality of hardware processors configurable to model a data plane physical layer;
a first interface coupled to the plurality of hardware processors, the first interface configured to be coupled to a software simulator comprising a physics model configured to provide model parameters based on modeled communication hardware and a temporal modeling scenario;
a second interface coupled to the plurality of hardware processors, the second interface configured to be coupled to simulated or real nodes for sending and receiving network data to and from the nodes;
wherein the hardware processors are configured to model effects of the data plane physical layer on the network data;
wherein the hardware processors are configured to model effects of the data plane physical layer on the network data based on coefficients set for the hardware processors for simulating latency, jitter, and losses; and
wherein the plurality of hardware processors comprises an RF channel processor configured to provide interconnectivity and channel delay between input nodes and output nodes.
