1. A root access point device (APD), the root APD comprising:
a memory;
a processor configured to execute instructions stored on the memory to cause the root APD to:
onboard a first wireless extender based on a first hop count associated with the first wireless extender not reaching a hop limitations via a root backhaul BSS using credentials received from the root APD; and
prevent a second wireless extender from onboarding onto the first wireless extender based on a second hop count associated with the second wireless extender reaching a second hop limitation.
