1. A television (TV) broadcast signal transmitting apparatus for transmitting layer 1 (L1) signaling information, the TV broadcast signal transmitting apparatus operable in a mode among a plurality of modes, the TV broadcast signal transmitting apparatus comprising:
a zero padder configured to fill information bits with input bits and one or more zero padding bits, if a number of the input bits is less than a number of the information bits, wherein the input bits are based on the L1 signaling information;
an encoder configured to encode the information bits to generate parity bits;
a puncturer configured to calculate a number of parity bits to be punctured and puncture one or more parity bits of the generated parity bits based on the calculated number;
a mapper configured to map, based on a modulation method, the input bits and remaining parity bits after puncturing to constellation points; and
a transmitter configured to transmit a broadcast signal to a receiving apparatus,
wherein the plurality of modes comprises a first mode and a second mode,
wherein the number of parity bits to be punctured is calculated based on a following equation:
Npunc=Npunc_temp−(NFEC−NFEC_temp)
where Npunc represents the number of the parity bits to be punctured, the Npunc_temp is expressed by Npunc_temp=└A×(Kldpc−Nouter┘+B, the NFEC is expressed by
the NFEC_temp=Nouter+Nldpc_parity−Npunc_temp,
where the Nouter represents a number of the input bits, the Kldpc represents a number of the information bits, the Nldpc_parity represents a number of the generated parity bits, and ηMOD represents a modulation order of the modulation method, and
wherein if the mode is the first mode, the A is 0, the B is 11460, and the input bits are based on the signaling information, and if the mode is the second mode, the A is 2, the B is 6036, and the input bits are based on the signaling information.
