1. A method for performing a surgical procedure on an atrial appendage of a patient via a pericardial approach, the method comprising:
positioning a device through a pericardium of the patient, wherein a distal end of the device forms a closed circumferential profile around the atrial appendage, wherein the device is coupled to a clip that forms a closed circumferential profile around the atrial appendage;
sealing a portion of the atrial appendage with the distal end of the device; and
isolating, using the clip, the atrial appendage from an atrium to which the atrial appendage is attached.
