1. A method for changing the appearance and/or functionality of a location-aware application on a portable communication device, the method comprising the steps of:
capturing or retrieving a digital image that includes a plurality of objects using a portable communications device;
analyzing the digital image to identify the plurality of objects in the digital image using a computer vision technique that includes deep learning for identifying objects;
presenting a plurality of subject choices based on the identified plurality of objects;
receiving a selection of a subject from the presented plurality of subject choices;
detecting a location associated with the digital image;
retrieving information related to both the selected subject and the detected location associated with the digital image; and
displaying the retrieved information.
