1. A method comprising:
receiving, by a certificate revocation service, a revocation check request from a first client;
querying, by one or more computer processors of the certificate revocation service, a data storage of the certificate revocation service for a revocation status of a first digital certificate; and
responding to the revocation check request based on querying the data storage for the revocation status of the first digital certificate, wherein the first client is configured to disconnect, from a server that provides the first digital certificate to the first client, in response to determining that the first digital certificate is not revoked, the revocation status of the first digital certificate is unavailable, and the first client is not set to fail open.
