1. A guided munition comprising:
a body section;
a precision guidance kit (“PGK”) section coaxial to the body section;
a despin maintenance motor disposed between and coaxial to the body section and the PGK section;
wherein the despin maintenance motor comprises:
a spinable outer section having a plurality of magnets and a plurality of markers;
an inner section stationary relative to the spinable outer section and having a plurality of coils and an optical encoder;
a power source;
a timer circuit;
a field effect transistor (“FET”); and
a controller in electrical communication with the plurality of coils, the power source, the FET, and the optical encoder;
wherein the controller is configured to receive a signal from the optical encoder when a marker on the spinable outer section crosses a field of view of the optical encoder, the controller being further configured to transmit electricity via the FET to coils in the inner section in response to the marker crossing the field of view of the optical encoder, wherein the transmission of electricity via the FET to the coils generates torque between the spinable outer section and the inner section.
