1. A cubic boron nitride (cBN)-based composite, consisting of:
about 30-65 vol. % cBN;
about 3-30 vol. % zirconium (Zr)-containing compounds comprising at least zirconium carbo-nitride (ZrCN) or zirconium diboride (ZrB2);
about 0-10 vol. % cobalt-tungsten-borides (CoxWyBz);
about 2-30 vol. % aluminum oxide (Al2O3);
about 0.5-10 vol. % tungsten borides; and
less than or equal to about 5 vol. % aluminum nitride (AlN), wherein the cBN-based composite excludes Ti-containing compounds.
