1. An exercise machine, comprising:
a cable;
a motor mechanically coupled to the cable to provide resistance during an exercise by tensioning the cable; and
a sensor that detects a state of the cable;
wherein the resistance is selectively removed from the cable in response to a determination that a user has completed an exercise, wherein the determination that the user has completed the exercise is based at least in part a determination that movement of the cable is below a threshold for a threshold period of time, and wherein the threshold period of time is selected based at least in part on whether the user has completed a repetition goal.
