1. An insertion device for inserting an intrauterine device into a uterus, the insertion device comprising:
a shaft defining a space in which the intrauterine device is loaded prior to delivery into the uterus;
a proximal end of the shaft through which a release thread of the intrauterine device extends; and
a distal end of the shaft, wherein the distal end is configured to be advanced into the uterus, and wherein the distal end is configured to allow the intrauterine device to be deployed through the distal end upon release of the release thread.
