1. A method comprising:
estimating distances of a user device from an access point based on a series of fine timing measurement (FTM) ranging bursts exchanged between the user device and the access point;
receiving, at the access point and from a network controller, a schedule indicating a threshold;
calculating a variance of the estimated distances; and
in response to determining that the variance exceeds the threshold, instructing the user device to perform an action that reduces the variance.
