1. An infrared (IR) imaging system for detecting a substance, the substance having one or more infrared absorption peaks, the IR imaging system comprising:
an optical detection unit comprising:
an optical detector array having increased sensitivity in a first spectral range corresponding to at least one of the one or more infrared absorption peaks and a decreased sensitivity in a second spectral range outside the one or more infrared absorption peaks, wherein the optical detector array is cooled by a thermo-electric cooler, wherein the second spectral range comprises a wavelength range between 4 microns and 6 microns; and
one or more optical filters configured to selectively pass light in the first spectral range.
