1. A method for separating cells of a first cell type from cells of second cell type, the method comprising:
(a) binding cells of the first cell type to a solid support through an antibody having binding affinity to a cell surface protein of cells of the first cell type, and
(b) separating cells of the first cell type bound to the solid support from cells of the second cell type,
wherein the antibody is bound to the solid support through a biotin derivative/streptavidin linkage, and
wherein the biotin derivative is N3′-ethyl biotin 17 having the following structure:
