1. A tibial implant system for knee arthroplasty comprising:
a tibial plate sized and shaped for placement on a proximal end of a tibia of a patient, the tibial plate including opposite proximal and distal surfaces, the distal surface configured to engage the proximal end of the tibia;
a tibial keel extending distally from the distal surface of the tibial plate and configured to be inserted into the proximal end of the tibia;
at least one anchoring projection extending distally from the distal surface of the tibial plate and configured to be inserted into the proximal end of the tibia;
a position verification system including a position indicator and a tracker, wherein the tracker tracks a position of the position indicator in 3-dimensional space;
at least one positioning guide located on the tibial plate and configured to be engaged by the position indicator to verify the position of the tibial plate relative to the proximal end of the tibia after the tibial plate is placed on the proximal end of the tibia,
wherein the tibial plate includes a perimeter edge margin, the at least one positioning guide disposed on the perimeter edge margin of the tibial plate,
wherein the at least one positioning guide is configured to encode identification data of the tibial plate, and
wherein the position verification system is configured to determine the size of the tibial plate by using the identification data and referencing an implant database.
