a memory; and
a controller coupled to the memory and configured to:
issue a storage device command to a particular die in the memory based on a host command; and
perform a dropped command detection (DCD) status query on the particular die within a time period after the storage device command is issued, the DCD status query indicating whether the storage device command is dropped, the time period being bounded by a first time at which the storage device command is expected to begin execution and a second time at which the storage device command is expected to complete execution.
