1. A light emitting apparatus comprising:
an electronics board having an LED attach region thereof and multiple electrically conductive traces;
an array of multiple light emitting diodes (LEDs), each LED being arranged so as to emit light from a top surface thereof, and being separated from adjacent LEDs of the array by corresponding lanes, the LED array being positioned on and connected to the electronics board at the LED attach region so as to receive one or more drive signals via the electrically conductive traces of the electronics board;
a power module connected to or positioned on the electronics board so as to deliver the one or more drive signals to the LED array via the electrically conductive traces of the electronics board;
a phosphor layer positioned on the top surfaces of multiple LEDs of the array so as to span some or all of the lanes, the phosphor layer including phosphor material and one or more of a ceramic, a glass, or an organic binder; and
a plurality of holes in or through or pockets within the phosphor layer, the holes or pockets forming collectively one or more light barriers within the phosphor layer, one or more of the light barriers being arranged so as to reduce lateral transmission of light through corresponding regions of the phosphor layer spanning the lanes, relative to lateral light transmission within regions of the phosphor layer that do not span one of the lanes.
