1. A method of determining if an energy-delivery element of a treatment tip for an RF energy device is in adequate communication with a tissue to be treated, without determining an electrical impedance from the tissue, the method comprising: determining the time since the energy-delivery element of the treatment tip was last activated;
taking a temperature of one or more sites on the treatment tip;
determining if the energy-delivery element is in contact with the tissue without applying RF energy to the tissue by comparing the temperature of the one or more sites on the treatment tip to a threshold function for the time since the treatment tip was last activated; and
indicating if the energy-delivery element is in contact with the tissue.
